THE SPACE

The private entrance opens to the staircase leading to the apartment’s hallway. To the left, the skilfully-fitted kitchen with fossil-grey Shaker-style fitments, light oak worktop, and contrasting olive tile backing. The galley-style preparation area has a fan oven and halogen hob, fridge-freezer and a half-size dishwasher. It leads to the adjacent L-shaped breakfast bar with ample seating for bright starts and morning coffee. There’s also a separate laundry room housing the washing machine.

Also off the hallway is the family shower room and WC, with wooden floors, a double-size shower tray within a marble-effect enclosure, and a towel radiator.

The L-shaped living space enhances the aerial atmosphere of Vane Tower. The white of the walls and gloss flooring elevate you into the clouds. Dual-aspect windows gaze across the bay. The terracotta-toned corner sofa and day bed make lounging all the more soothing. The dining area is ensconced in its own niche is framed by a feature wall of painted flora, with seating for four.

A few steps up through the small mezzanine is the first bedroom. From a soothing sleep in the light plum, merlot, and crisp whites of the double-size bed, the slatted shutters of the dual aspect windows make your first sight of the day a bird’s eye view of Torbay, the harbour and of Dartmoor in the distance. The mezzanine also hosts the second shower room and WC – styled with contrasting Wedgewood blue walls and glossy brick-copper tiles.

Up again to the very top of the tower, the master bedroom’s double bed is framed on three sides by clerestory windows for the broadest of views across the treasured English Riviera. Powder blue lower walls with wispy whites above and to the ceiling – you’ll wake feeling on top of the world.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Vane Tower is an imposing presence above the harbourside and falls within the Torquay Harbour Conservation area, linked to the harbour and town by a series of steps and pathways that crisscross the hillside. Within an easy walk is the limestone plateau at Daddyhole Plain, where the award-winning South West Coast Path leads to the Blue Flag beach at Meadfoot.

It is also convenient for local amenities, including the nearby village community of Wellswood with its church, school, pub, restaurants, cafés, and shops.
