Whether you’re a sparkler twirler, a Catherine Wheel enthusiast, or simply someone who loves to look to the skies with an ‘Ooh!’ and an ‘Ahh!’, the 5th November brings magic to the skies of Devon each year, with dazzling displays of colour and magic sure to delight the senses

Wherever you choose to holiday, there’s very likely to be a display of the most fantastic firework fun on your doorstep, and keeping things local is always a fantastic way to support the local businesses – we always encourage this! We are also lucky enough to have some award-winning larger displays which are sure to amaze even the most seasoned of fireworks enthusiasts.

Whether you want to go big or stay inside and warm, the Fresh Escapes team have been to a fair few displays over the years and have selected a few of our favourites to make sure that you ‘Remember Remember’ your Fifth of November this year!

A Sensational Display on Plymouth Hoe

Perhaps the most famous of all of our firework locations, Plymouth Hoe hosts the Firework Championships each year and so is easily one of the most recognisable and popular destinations on Guy Fawkes Night!

Friday 5th November will once more see the skies of Plymouth lit in spectacular firework display, with Guy Fawkes burned on the accompanying bonfire, of course! This promises to be a night of excitement, thrills and good food from local eateries and pop-up stands. Fancy making a day of it? Take a train journey to Plymouth and explore the fantastic Drake Circus, have lunch at the delicious Rockfish restaurant, and enjoy beautiful views from the Hoe before the sun sets and the firework fun begins!

Something Different at Ottery St Mary

Love all the fun of Bonfire Night and the feeling of warmth on a cold evening, but not a fan of fireworks? Fancy something a little different? Why not head out to the Tar Barrels celebration at Ottery St Mary?!

Come in your comfy clothes and enjoy the thrill of the night with the Ottery Tar Barrels, with the streets lined with crowds and flaming barrels rolling by – this is an event like no other! Stooped in History, the Tar Barrel tradition is hundreds of years old. The exact origins are unknown but probably started after the gunpowder plot of 1605.  Various alternative reasons suggested for burning barrels have included fumigation of cottages and as a warning of the approach of the Spanish armada.
